LINKS Literacy Support Program - Wolfville
LINKS is an after-school literacy program designed for students who are experiencing difficulty in reading/ writing skills development, which may be attributed to a learning disability. LINKS is dedicated to helping children become competent, independent learners, through the experience of good books and opportunities for good writing. LINKS - Wolfville is a program supported by the Learning Disabilities Association of Nova Scotia (LDANS).
Description of the LINKS Program:
- participants receive 1:1 intervention, following an individualized program
- participants must be in grades Primary-6
- assessments are completed at the start of the program, with further testing done post-sessions to document progress; results are shared with parents
- participants are seen twice weekly by a trained literacy instructor (Acadia B.Ed. students) for one hour sessions over a ten week term (20 sessions)
- sessions are held on Mondays and Wednesdays beginning at either 5:00 or 5:30, at the Fountain Commons, on the Acadia University campus.
- participants are introduced to reading and writing strategies targeting phonological awareness, word decoding, spelling, written expression, comprehension and reading fluency
- home reading and practice activities are provided
- a program supervisor will monitor your child's progress, as well as provide feedback and support to the literacy instructor
- written mid-term and end-of-term reports are provided
- cost of the program is $235 for the ten week term ($200 for LDANS members)
New referrals are now being accepted for the Winter 2012 LINKS program.
Assessments will be scheduled in the upcoming weeks, with the program to begin in January, 2012.
