Zero Waste Classrooms

Acadia is committed to managing waste responsibly and proud to have a diversion rate of about 70%. This means that 70% of our waste is diverted from the landfill and is recycled or composted. A variety of campus initiatives are aimed at reducing waste as well as encouraging the Acadia community to sort waste correctly and safely.  Many departments, including Education, have implemented a Zero-Waste Classroom program, which involves encouraging building occupants to sort waste in centrally located waste stations, rather than dispose of waste in single classroom bins, which have been removed. Acadia also has a Plastic-Free Campus Program aimed at reducing single use disposable plastics, like straws, bags, bottles, on campus. There are also electronics and battery recycling programs and much more. Visit sustainability.acadiau.ca for more information about waste on campus and in the community.
