21st Century Learning

We live in a society where being digitally literate and applying high-leverage skills through technology are important. In the teaching profession, teachers require a knowledge and appreciation of technology that will enable them to engage and teach students using current and innovative 21st century technological resources. The Acadia School of Education offers an opportunity for students to interact with digital tools as they learn to integrate technology into their practice as an effective teaching strategy to meet the needs of classrooms. Students are also exposed to current technology through courses such as Computer Science Methods and Digital Literacy and Curriculum. Acadia University has also developed an innovative technology Center called Steamspace. This is a 2500ft2 home to a variety of tools to encourage innovation and inquiry through design and prototyping. This space aims to foster creativity. It enables learners to connect the real-world applications of their knowledge through curriculum, using a variety of tools from 3D printers and laser cutters to robotics and coding. The application of hands-on technology in Steamspace covers a range of disciplines and grade levels, from fabricating possible solutions for modern world problems to using a high-definition scanner to create models of historic artefacts.
